Employee Benefits: Orian is committed to engaging with the local community and supporting job seekers in the area by offering rewarding career opportunities. We prioritise employing individuals who reside near our sites, minimising travel distance and fostering a rapid response. Our benefits for local applicants include:
PLANET
Sourcing and Purchasing Practices: Our dedicated Commercial and Procurement Manager ensures effective supply chain management, emphasising local procurement, sustainability, and value for money. We work closely with suppliers to minimise our carbon footprint and develop long-term, mutually beneficial relationships.
Quality Control: Supplier Selection and Vetting Our procurement team employs a rigorous selection and vetting process to ensure that suppliers meet the stringent criteria required for our business operations. Product safety is our top priority, and we expect suppliers to adhere to safe working practices and embrace our philosophy of prioritising safety. During the vetting and selection process, suppliers must demonstrate:
• Compliance with legislation.
• Adoption of safe working practices and product recall procedures.
• Traceability of goods.
• Implementation of auditing procedures, both internal and external
Sustainable Procurement: We prioritise sustainable procurement by choosing suppliers who share our commitment to environmental and social responsibility. This includes selecting products with minimal environmental impact, favouring local suppliers to reduce transportation emissions, and ensuring all purchased goods meet high sustainability standards. Our sustainable procurement strategy involves continuous evaluation and improvement to keep pace with evolving best practices and regulations.
Local and Ethical Sourcing: Our approach to sourcing emphasizes local and ethical considerations. By supporting local suppliers, we contribute to the regional economy and reduce environmental impacts associated with long-distance transportation. Additionally, we ensure our suppliers adhere to ethical practices, including fair labour conditions and sustainable production methods, aligning with our broader ESG goals. For your contract our purchased will be directed though our Gateshead based supplier.
Continuous Improvement and Future Goals: We are committed to continuous improvement in our ESG practices, regularly reviewing and updating our policies to reflect new insights and innovations. Our future goals include:
• Further reducing our carbon footprint through advanced energy-saving technologies and practices.
• Expanding our social value initiatives to include more community engagement and support projects.
• Enhancing our employee training programs to ensure ongoing professional development and alignment with the latest industry standards.
• Strengthening our supply chain sustainability by working with suppliers to develop and implement more rigorous environmental and ethical standards.
Environmental Management and Carbon Reduction: Our environmental management strategy focuses on reducing our carbon footprint and promoting sustainable practices across our operations. This includes the following key areas: Policy Implementation Our environmental policy implementation includes compliance with relevant environmental legislation and management of environmental issues aligned with EN ISO 14001 standards. Line management takes responsibility for policy implementation, ensuring that all activities adhere to our environmental commitments.
Environmental Priorities: Our environmental priorities focus on increasing recycling and promoting procedures among clients, using the least hazardous chemicals feasible, and reducing organic food waste in catering operations. We strive to implement these practices across all our sites to minimise environmental impact.
Environmentally Friendly Practices: We utilise AISE Charter for Sustainable Cleaning compliant products and concentrated solutions to reduce packaging and transportation. Our smart dose systems for chemical dispensing minimise waste, and we use recyclable packaging and certified eco-labelled products.
Additionally, we adopt reusable microfibre cloths and battery-operated equipment, and employ energy-efficient fleet and technology-enabled practices to further our sustainability goals. We carry spare items of common parts for electrical equipment so that for example, vacuum heads, cable packs and new hoses can be replaced rather than creating waste and disposing otherwise perfectly good pieces of equipment. Additionally our electrical equipment is serviced and maintained by our in-house engineer so that it’s in good working order and not a source of easy disposable waste.
Supplier Engagement: Our contract and tender terms with our suppliers require their commitment to support our business in achieving our environmental, social and economic value aims. Tender bids include environmental and social value as a scored element of tender evaluation. We promote sustainable procurement policies and collaborate with suppliers to reduce environmental impact.
Our approach includes:
Rationalising chemical usage and consolidating deliveries,
Utilising Fairtrade products, and
Encouraging recycling and eco-friendly practices.
By working closely with suppliers like our primary supplier of chemicals and non-electrical equipment Bunzl, we set sustainability targets and aim to reduce our environmental footprint across operations. Bunzl will be the supply route for the chemical and non-electrical equipment used across your estate. Being a local employer, based in Gateshead, they are ideally located to support our service to our sites and an ideal partner to support the local area.
Collaboration: Our principal supplier for chemicals and cleaning materials, Bunzl, has introduced a Sustainability Awarded for manufacturers whose products meet their sustainability criteria. Using this Gold, Silver and Bronze based sustainability rating we are committed to selecting products that align with our sustainability goals and demonstrating in practice how we contribute to reducing our environmental impact.
One product we are currently trialling in our business is OdorBac Tec4, which has the highest “Gold” sustainability credentials. This product, provided by Bunzl, is in a concentrated form and would be diluted on-site using dosage equipment. By replacing multiple products with OdorBac Tec4, we can reduce the number products and therefore deliveries to sites, ultimately decreasing our carbon footprint.
We are also carrying out trials of Ozoklenz's aqueous ozone technology as part of our commitment to sustainability. This solution uses ozone, a powerful natural cleaner, to provide chemical-free cleaning. It involves a wall-mounted station converting oxygen into ozone, mixed with water to create a cleaning solution. Certified as BS EN 14476 antiviral, the ozone solution eliminates contaminants upon contact. Previous trials showed significant sustainability benefits:
• While we currently use concentrated chemicals within our operations, reducing plastic use, aqueous ozone technology could eliminate most plastic waste associated with our service.
• With our cleaning solution produced on-site using only electricity, oxygen, and water, it could significantly reduce the carbon footprint associated with the manufacture and delivery of cleaning products.
• Aqueous ozone returns to water and oxygen within 4 hours, meaning it can be poured safely down the drain without harming waterways or aquatic life.
• With an initial installation cost associated with the wall-mounted filling station, there are no ongoing costs related to the production of aqueous ozone, and no need for replacement cartridges.
• Any cost saving associated with the technology would be given back to the client through a direct price reduction in future years.
At Orian, we go beyond just selecting environmentally friendly products; we also invest in state-of-the-art cleaning equipment to ensure our operations are as sustainable as possible. Our dedication to sustainability extends to every aspect of our service, including the tools we use. We carefully choose cleaning equipment that not only meets the highest standards of performance but also minimises energy consumption and environmental impact. Our state-of-the-art machines are equipped with advanced features designed to maximise efficiency while reducing resource usage. Our extensive range of choice means that we can ensure we have the correct machinery for the specific site’s needs:
Our vacuum cleaners are fitted with energy-efficient motors and HEPA filters to capture even the smallest particles, improving indoor air quality while reducing energy consumption.
Similarly, our floor scrubbers utilise innovative technologies such as low-water usage systems and automatic detergent dispensers to minimise water and chemical waste. Our scrubber dryers use 30% less water than traditional machines to achieve the same productivity.
We utilise microfibre cleaning cloths and mops that are not only highly effective at trapping dirt and bacteria but also reusable and washable, significantly reducing the need for disposable cleaning supplies. One example of this equipment is the Ezi-Shine Kit. Microfiber technology used to deliver great results on glass areas and tiles.
With the extendable pole system it enables us to reach more difficult areas such as both sides of glass panels and higher level tiled areas delivering excellent results without the need for chemicals.
By incorporating these cutting-edge technologies into our cleaning operations, we not only deliver superior results but also demonstrate our commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility. Our state-of-the-art equipment ensures that we can achieve exceptional cleanliness while minimising our carbon footprint and preserving natural resources for future generations. In collaboration with our partners, we are dedicated to implementing sustainable solutions that not only meet but exceed expectations, demonstrating our unwavering commitment to environmental responsibility and excellence in cleaning services.
