Orian is a private limited company owned and influenced by both Cumberland Council and Westmorland and Furness Council. Prior to the creation of Orian, it was part of Cumbria County Council’s FM division, and there were restrictions preventing us from entering commercial markets.  Now, operating independently since 2013, our growth strategy is to develop Orian into new markets including business, industry and more commercial market sectors.

Orian has expanded significantly in recent years, and with our roots firmly planted in Cumbria, we now serve clients all over Northern England, such as Lancashire, Greater Manchester, Merseyside, Cheshire, Tyne & Wear, Northumberland, and Yorkshire.

What We Do

Led by Graeme Gunn, Managing Director of Orian, we operate as 2 separate divisions each providing a unique service.

  • Our FM division has been delivering cleaning and other soft facilities management services for decades.

  • Our Foodservice division provide delicious school meals for more than 20,000 pupils every day across Northern England.

Our Identity

At the inception of our business, our brand and identity was chosen by our employees. Of the options, the favourite was Orian, which holds a deeper meaning and is true to our local roots.

Orian is the English version of Urien, the Celtic name for the 6th century king of Rheged. The heart of his kingdom was said to be modern Cumbria, and his court is believed to have played host to King Arthur whenever he was travelling through the North.

It is this sense of heritage, history, quality and local flavour which led the team to think that Orian would be a fitting name for the business. The connection also saw royal violet and gold being chosen as Orian’s main colours. These are reflected in the uniforms worn by our employees.
